Sojourn Art Spaces (SAS) is a curatorial collaboration that was formed in response to the need for regular and diverse arts programming in the Kenton neighborhood of Northeast Portland, Oregon. SAS mainly focused on the aura and trans-formative properties of site-specific installations. Each month SAS facilitated the conversion of non-gallery spaces into a venue for contemporary artists. The artist was given a month to design a piece for their specific location.
In addition to site-specific installations, SAS curated exhibitions with emerging local artists in non-traditional gallery settings. In these unique curatorial ventures, SAS attempted to bridge the gap between viewer, artist, and curator. Doing so brought more exhibition opportunities for artists and more exposure to the artistic community.
